about

This music I made a few years ago probably sounds bad to your ears at times. There are parts and lyrics that make me cringe but I’m attached to the flaws and the recordings as they are. I can remember how I felt and the places where I recorded every one of the pieces. The piano at an empty church, recorded moments in public spaces, my busted guitar with a hole in the side and an out of tune electric piano on the porch during a humid night with crickets, the moldy rot house, lonely walks home drunk hating myself and wanting to die, my cat Sylvia who helped me stay alive, up all night on acid and the $200 drum kit, weird tunings I’ll never remember, the 16 key keyboard I bought from City Thrift and then turned down an offer in the parking lot by a mother who wanted to buy her son a piano for Christmas, my dear friend Graham who made me smile and would entertain my absurd ideas without outward judgement, looping over a digital beat for my entire shift working at Copy Time. I felt mostly bad when I made these songs, sometimes dancing around the line of suicide, privately, but then publicly through song, and I can imagine it feels that way when you listen to it. I’m sure that is hard music to hear. At times it will make you want to rip your ears out of your head. Yet I still like the songs because they best describe how I felt at one point in time. Good ideas poorly executed, is my excuse. For anybody who is willing to give this a try, I appreciate it, and I hope you’ll listen deeply and hear what I was trying to communicate, because I still stand behind it. If not, who cares!
